Zanzibar's east coast has one of the largest tidal ranges in the region: at low tide, the ocean retreats hundreds of meters over the coral flat; at high tide, clear, warm water returns right in front of the hotel.
Like the rest of Zanzibar's coast, Jambiani's tide is semi-diurnal: two high tides and two low tides every 24 hours, about 6 hours 12 minutes apart.
